Trauma-Informed Justice for Women: Possibilities and Pitfalls.

University of Greenwich, Queen Anne Court, Room 165 and Online
21 May 2026, 10 AM – 5 PM

Overview
Exploring both the potential and the challenges of trauma-informed frameworks within justice systems

This one-day consortium, co-sponsored by the British Society of Criminology and the Centre for Communities and Social Justice, brings together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to critically examine trauma-informed approaches to justice for women.

The event will explore both the potential and the challenges of trauma-informed frameworks within justice systems. Sessions will consider how trauma-informed ideas intersect with policy and institutional practice, provide international perspectives, and explore issues such as maternal crisis and justice responses.

The consortium aims to create space for discussion about how trauma-informed approaches are shaping contemporary justice responses to women’s experiences of harm, victimisation, and criminalisation. Participants will reflect on what trauma-informed justice can achieve, where it may fall short, and how these approaches might be developed more critically and effectively.
