Conference bursaries for delegates from less-resourced countries
The bursaries have now all been assigned and we have closed any further applications for bursaries towards our 2025 conference.
The BSC is introducing conference bursaries to support colleagues in low and lower-middle-income countries to help fund attendance at our annual conference.
The bursary is open to BSC member and non-member criminologists who routinely work in low and lower middle income countries and is aimed particularly at Postgraduate and Early Career delegates presenting a paper at the conference. Funding of up to £150 is available. In this pilot year, the bursaries will work as reimbursements so successful applicants can claim up to the above amount towards registration fees, travel or accommodation. The provision will be reviewed following feedback.
Please note, we have a limited number of bursaries available and we recommend submitting your application as early as possible as there is a cap on the amount of bursaries we can award.

- how attending the conference will benefit you
Please don’t write more than 200 words as this information is for us to assess how the scheme worked and does not form assessment criteria.
Bursaries will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
Further information & terms
- You are advised to apply for a bursary at the same time as you submit an abstract /register
- If awarded a bursary, you’ll be given instructions on how to claim which will include submitting proof of registration. If it is not possible to register without the bursary money, then the bursary can be paid directly to our conference partners as part payment towards registration
- Claims must be made within 3 months of the bursary being awarded; any claims received after this cannot be reimbursed.
- If you receive a bursary and do not attend the conference, you may be required to return part or all of the funds to us. This will be reviewed on an individual case basis.
Those who receive a bursary are encouraged to provide feedback on how they benefitted from the scheme including suggestions on how it could be improved and, if possible, write a blog for us about their experience.
